Playhouse Square,
Since opening in 1990, the West Yorkshire Playhouse has established a reputation both nationally and internationally as one of Britain’s most exciting and active producing theatres, winning awards for everything from its productions to its customer service. The Playhouse provides both a thriving focal point for the communities of West Yorkshire and theatre of the highest standard for audiences throughout the region and beyond. It produces up to 16 of its own shows each year in its two auditoria and stages over 1,000 performances, workshops , readings and community events, watched by over 250,000 people.
Great building, fully accessible auditoriums and facilities. Good variety of productions on from classics to cutting edge, with more than a nod to local talent past and present. There are lots of restaurants close by for pre curtain dinner. Refreshments available but a bit pricey. It's not far from the town centre but there are theatres closer to the student end of town. The variety and quality of productions on here means this probably isn't an issue. Easily reached on the bus or by taxi if you're not up for walking it. Concessions are available for students, families and those on benefits.
