Swan Street,
This is a fabulous venue with bucketloads of character and charm. It is centrally located near lots of eating and drinking establishments which adds to its appeal for an evening out.Although there is a lot of comedy on here you'll also find a lot of music acts on too- particularly the more popular singers/groups on the folk circuit as well as local (ish) talent. Recent gigs include for example yorkshire acts Kate Rusby, Liza Carthy and Waking the Witch. The only down side to this this venue (hence only four stars) is the lack of disabled access. There is a large amount of stairs and no lift. The wheelchair spaces (such as they are) are in fact the small gaps next to the pillars holding the ceiling up- restricted view in other words. There is currently a mammoth fundraising effort to modernise the beautiful victorial building so that all patrons can enjoy it and lifts etc can be installed. Although some funding has been granted (by national heritage I think)they are still a long way off their target.Catch a show there and you too will be taken with its charms.
