  • 5 Wonderful shop with great assistants

For such a small shop, the stock at Hobgoblin is wonderful. I have used their online service for some while, but some months ago I wanted a new classical guitar and, after perusing their SUPERB catalogue, I settled on a few possible models and went there to try them out. The staff had three perfect attributes - they were VERY knowledgeable, they were very helpful and they weren't at all pushy. In fact they left me alone to try as many guitars as I wanted. I spent a long time there and eventually bought a lovely Admira Capricho, a strong carry-bag and a John Pearse pickup. I cannot praise this shop enough. If you're interested in folk music and folk instruments (not only guitars - but just about anything from anywhere in the world) - I urge you to check them out and to get a copy of their catalogue. It's a mine of information and can be ordered via their website. (All their branches have their own websites which can be accessed via the main Hobgoblin homepage). I think of it as my UN-laminated book of dreams ..... you'll only know what that means if you're a fan of Bill Bailey. Never mind 10 out of 10 .... that type of score isn't high enough !!! A magical shop.

  • 5 A wonderful music shop - and go next door as well

For anyone who loves musical instruments, any Hobgoblin shop is a must. The branch in Leeds is a wonderful example. Don't be put off by it's small shopfront or even it's small size inside ... every square inch is crammed with high quality guitars and instruments from all round the world. They specialise in acoustic-style instruments, but do carry a few electrics. However, above all, they aim to support folk music of any and every form. The staff are all very knowledgeable and most are musicians themselves. They are helpful but never pushy and you can happily go in there and be greeted by a cheery "Hello", and then be left to yourself if that's what you want, as you try any instrument that takes your fancy. Some months ago, I wanted a new guitar and everything I just described is what happened to me. I've since seen the same thing happen to other people - but, anyone who wants advice or help gets as much or as little as they want. This is a brilliant shop staffed by waonderful people and there is a bonus .... right next door is an equally good guitar shop. In fact two because 'Northern guitars', who are downstairs, have an extensive stock of electric guitars and 'Northern Acoustics', who are upstairs, have a superb collection of - well, it's obvious - acoustic guitars. So for the price of one visit you get THREE amazing shops side by side.

  • 5 well worth a visit

39 Call LaneLeeds, LS1 7BT0113 245 3311monday - saturday 10am to 6pmEven though this isnt in bradford it is well worth going to leeds just to visit here - i love the uniqueness of it. Its just near the corn exchange so you are near some good unique shops. This music shop sells every instrument you could ever think of in whatever size shape or form you require - it really is vast in what they sell. Also if you were after a particular type and they dont have it in stock they go out of their way to order you one from somewhere, they have various shops all over the world so they usually find the item you are after. They also sell some unique older versions of instruments which is quite interesting to see.Upstairs they have a large violin department - where you can buy, sell or hire violins or assessories. The shop offer credit to buy the goods on which is a plus to some people. The staff are on hand to help and advice in every stage of the process of buying an instrument. They are very friendly and polite. The shop isnt really that expensive compared to some and because it is unique anyway a lot of the items you cannot find elsewhere. They also repair items for you...
